Club Tijuana U21

The badge belongs to Tijuana's top flight side, and the reserve setup around it exists to feed players toward the same Estadio Caliente shirt that carries the club's one real prize: the Liga MX Apertura title from 2012. That season remains the high-water mark, the thing every later squad, senior or otherwise, gets measured against.

Getting into the top division at all took some doing. What plays now as Club Tijuana began life in August 2006 as a project called Gallos de Caliente, then spent a year wearing the name Club Celaya before the operation moved back to Tijuana and settled on Xoloitzcuintles, after the hairless dog breed, on 14 January 2007. Two rebrands and a relocation before the club had even picked a permanent name.

Promotion arrived first, not the league title. Xolos won the Liga de Ascenso Apertura in 2010, then beat Irapuato in the Final de Ascenso the following year to lock in a place among Mexico's elite. The Liga MX crown followed within two years of that promotion, a fast climb for a club still working out what to call itself. Los Xolos, the nickname that stuck, now covers everything from the first team down through the age groups that carry the same red, black and white.

Beyond that 2012 run, the honours list stays short. One league title, one promotion campaign, one Ascenso final win — and nothing since to add to it.
