Two school teams in Mexico City decided they were stronger together. Rafael Garza Gutiérrez and Germán Núñez Cortina brought their sides — one from Colegio Mascarones, one from Colegio Marista de la Perpetua — into a single squad on 12 October 1916, and picked blue and cream for it. The colours stuck; more than a century later they still give the club one of its names, Azulcremas.
Estadio Azteca , the ground the senior team has called home since 1966, is where the club's scale becomes obvious. Sponsorship has given it a second name, Estadio Banorte.
The trophy count is harder to pin down than it looks. Add the Copa México, the Campeón de Campeones and the rest, and the club counts 41 in all.
