Dorados de Sinaloa reached a final against Atlético de San Luis, lost it, and six months later had to sit down and do the whole thing again. San Luis took the Apertura 2018, then the Clausura 2019, and winning both halves of the campaign meant promotion arrived automatically — no play-off, the Ascenso MX title closed out before anyone else had a say in it.

The club was only six years old when that happened. It was set up on 28 May 2013 in San Luis Potosí, so the promotion season stands as the first thing of substance in its record rather than a chapter in a long one.

Liga MX has been less obliging. The furthest the club has gone in the top division is a quarter-final, in 2022/23, and there is nothing from Liga MX or the Mexican cup to put on a shelf.

Home matches are played at the Estadio Alfonso Lastras Ramírez on Avenida Malaquita, a ground that also carries a sponsor's name, Estadio Libertad Financiera, depending on which season and which paperwork you are reading. The home shirt is white and red with navy alongside it, and the red-and-white of it is what gives the club the name Rojiblancos; on the road, the red gives way to gold.
