Halle André Vacheresse
Roanne, France
Halle André Vacheresse sits on the outskirts of Roanne, accessible by car in less than ten minutes from the station. The name honours a local figure: André Vacheresse, who played for the home side from 1942 to 1962 and later managed them. He won three medals with the French national team and was inducted into the French Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.
The building opened in 1988, a year marked by the construction cost of 10 million euros. It served the town for decades before a major extension and renovation project between 2010 and 2011. That work, costing over 10 million euros, increased the capacity from 3,085 to 5,020 seats. The renovated hall was inaugurated in September 2011 with a gala match between Chorale Roanne Basket and Élan sportif chalonnais. In 2018, a new NBA-standard parquet floor was installed by the company Gerflor.
Chorale Roanne Basket plays in the LNB Pro B, the second tier of French professional basketball, known in France as Élite 2. The venue also hosts tennis events, including the Fed Cup, and handball matches. An annex space called 'Espace Chorum' covers 700 square metres and holds conferences. The owner is Roannais Agglomération, the metropolitan community.
