Hoyvíksvøllur

Hoyvík, Faroe Islands

Formerly: J&K vøllur

Before the summer of 2017, the club had no ground of its own to speak of. Home matches were played on the second pitch at Гундадалур, the shared complex down the road, which meant borrowing a slot on someone else's grass rather than opening a gate of your own. That changed in June 2017, when the pitch at Karlamagnusarbreyt 41 opened and Хёйвик got a ground it could call home.

It is a small thing by any measure — a thousand places, a synthetic surface, floodlights on the posts. But the artificial pitch is the point rather than a compromise: on this coast, grass and the weather rarely reach an agreement, and a synthetic surface is what keeps a fixture list intact from one end of the season to the other. The lights extend the same logic into the dark months, when daylight in the Faroes runs out long before a midweek kick-off.

The ground carries a second name, J&K vøllur, from its sponsor, and that name turns up as often as the地 one in listings and match reports. There is no earlier name on record for the site, no rebuild to trace, no attendance mark anyone has bothered to write down. Nor is there an official website for the ground or for ФК Хёйвик — anyone looking for a fixture time finds no answer online and asks at the ground instead.

What sets it apart from the larger arenas around Торсхавн is simply that it exists at all, and that everything about it — the surface, the lights, the modest capacity — was decided by the need to keep playing.
