Il-Foss Ground

Il-Foss takes its name from the Maltese word for a moat or ditch, and that is exactly what the site was before it was a football pitch: the old dry ditch running in front of Notre Dame Bastion , one of the works of the Cottonera Lines that ring the harbour towns.

The playing surface here is a modern one, synthetic turf .

Football has been played on the fill since November 1972 , when the ground opened. It has stayed the home of Żabbar St. Patrick F.C. ever since. Who paid for the work of filling the ditch is not recorded.
