Locals call it Gamle Gress — the Old Grass. Marienlyst has never carried a sponsor's title. Sectors have been sold off one by one, but the stadium itself stayed Marienlyst stadion from the first season to this one.

The ground rose out of the Marienlyst district on Schwartz gate after building work began in 1923, and it opened the following year. Strømsgodset IF moved in as principal tenant in 1967 and has been there since.

The sponsors bought the stands. They never bought the ground's name, and the crowd never gave it up.
