Seymour Shaw Park

The synthetic pitch at Seymour Shaw Park arrived in 2015, and it arrived with a certificate: TigerTurf Endurance 60, FIFA 2-Star, the first FIFA-approved football field in Australia at the time it was laid. The ground now hosts the TigerTurf Cup Grand Final each season, and why school sides and Sydney FC Youth share the surface with the club that has held the lease since the park opened.

That club is Sutherland Sharks FC, founded in 1930 as Sutherland United. It took the lease in 1950 and moved to Miranda permanently in 1959, and it has been there since.

In 1979 it staged the first 'A' international played by the Australia women's national team, the Matildas, against New Zealand — a match that finished 2-2. Four decades on, a W-League fixture between Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar in December 2018 drew 1,566, the highest recorded attendance at the park since 2003.

Most of what a spectator sees dates from a A$1.2 million renovation in February 2007, which put up the grandstand. The Sutherland Shire Council, which manages the site, adopted a $10 million masterplan in November 2021. Stage 1, a youth active sports precinct with a skatepark and playground, was finished in 2023; Stage 2, covering new amenities and a re-levelling of the field, has been under way around 2025.
