Ramaz Shengelia Stadium

What sets the Ramaz Shengelia Stadium apart from most Georgian grounds is its size. The work lifted the venue to UEFA category 4.

The ground carries the name of Ramaz Shengelia, who won the Soviet championship in 1978 and the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup in 1981, and was voted the Soviet Union's best footballer in both years. The sakrebulo renamed the stadium after Ramaz Shengelia in 2015; before that it had been known as the Givi Kiladze Stadium following an earlier reconstruction, and under Soviet rule simply as the Central Stadium.

Its own history runs further back than the current name suggests. Design work began in 1948 and construction in 1950, and the ground was already hosting Lokomotivi's matches by 1957, though the formal opening came only on 2 May 1962.

Beyond league football, the stadium regularly stages the Georgian Cup and Georgian Super Cup finals, and has hosted the national team in friendlies against Belarus and Cape Verde. It also doubles as a concert venue for the city.
