Sportplatz Kienhorststraße

Formerly: Wackerplatz

The Kienhorststraße pitch does not carry a founder's name or an opening date anyone bothered to record. For most of the twentieth century it was known as the Wackerplatz, home to SC Wacker 04 Berlin.

When Wacker 04 first won promotion to the 2. Bundesliga in 1974, the Wackerplatz was not fit to host them: no perimeter fencing around the pitch, no separate changing room for match officials. So the club took its home fixtures across town to the Poststadion instead. It was at the Poststadion, not here, that Wacker 04 drew their biggest crowd, 25,000 for a promotion play-off defeat to Eintracht Braunschweig in 1974.

Two Berlin championships, in 1972 and 1978, and three city cup wins sit in the club's history, but Wacker 04's own end came in 1994, when the club folded and the ground passed to BFC Alemannia 90. SC Tegel also called the pitch home before merging away in 2002.
