Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium
Durban, South Africa
Formerly: Clermont Stadium, Clermont Soccer Ground
It sits on Wyebank Road in the Clermont area. The venue carries the name of Cedric 'Sugar Ray' Xulu, a local football legend. Before that, it was simply Clermont Stadium or Clermont Soccer Ground, a facility that existed long before its current form.
The 2010 FIFA World Cup demanded a transformation. The work involved the complete reconstruction of the North and South grandstands, the laying of a new pitch with irrigation, and an expansion that brought the capacity to 6,500. It reopened in 2010 as one of three official training venues for the tournament.
Today, the stadium serves as a local hub for the Premier Soccer League club Lamontville Golden Arrows, though the club often plays its high-profile matches in larger stadiums like Moses Mabhida or King Zwelithini. Other tenants include KwaDukuza United and Umvoti FC. The playing surface is natural grass, and the ground has hosted 'Durban Derby' matches between the Arrows and AmaZulu, as well as less glamorous cup ties like a Nedbank Cup Last 16 match in 2017. Attendance figures vary, ranging from 700 to 5,000 spectators for specific matches.
