«Natal Rich Boyz»
Richards Bay U23 play in the DStv Diski Challenge, the national reserve league, and they usually finish in the middle or lower half of the table. They have won neither the league nor any other major honour.
In 2024 nine players from the reserve system stepped up to the senior squad of Richards Bay FC. Ntlonelo Bomelo and Thandoluhle Gazu were among them.
In 2017 the owner, Jomo Biyela, bought the franchise status of Thanda Royal Zulu after it went to AmaZulu, and Richards Bay FC was built on that purchase. The Natal Rich Boyz, in dark blue and white, have carried the name since.
The U23 team's primary home is the uMhlathuze Sports Complex in Richards Bay, which holds 10,500 after its renovations. When the stadium is unavailable, they move to neutral venues. Their toughest fixtures come against other KwaZulu-Natal clubs. Games with AmaZulu, Durban City and Lamontville Golden Arrows are all called the KZN Derby.
Among the staff, Mbongeni Mzimela works as goalkeeper coach for the Diski Challenge team.
