Milford's fiercest rivals are Durban City, and the fixture between them is billed as the KwaZulu-Natal derby, or KZN derby. The Stallions come from Richards Bay, a port town on the northern coast. Some of their home fixtures were moved to Durban, at Princess Magogo Stadium and Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium, while the 8,000-seat Richards Bay Sports Stadium remained the main base.

Their route upward ran through the provincial lower leagues. Milford won the KwaZulu-Natal stream of the SAFA Second Division in 2014–15 and again in 2022–23, and the second title took them into the National First Division, now the Motsepe Foundation Championship. From there the climb was quick. In 2025–26 they reached the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup, and they then won the promotion play-offs, which sends them into the Premier Soccer League (PSL) for 2026–27.

The midfielder and left-back Sifiso Mdluli is the player most often named as the standout of this side. Sicelo Masilela, a centre-forward, arrived in 2026, in time for the run that ended in promotion.

The Under-23 team plays in the DStv Diski Challenge, the PSL's youth league. It trains in the same facilities as the senior squad.
