AmaZulu U23

The King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium sits in Umlazi and holds 10,000. The senior side plays across the city at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, which seats 55,500. The under-23 team stays in Umlazi. Princess Magogo Stadium, with room for 12,000, has also hosted them, but Umlazi is where they are based.

The team was set up for the 2017/2018 season as the reserve side of AmaZulu, a club begun in 1932 by Zulu migrant workers as Zulu Royal Conquerors. It plays in the DStv Diski Challenge, the national reserve league, and carries the senior club's identity in full: bottle green and white, and the name Usuthu, which is both a Zulu war cry and the name of the royal house. Some media call the reserves Usuthu Juniors.

Its purpose is to supply the first team, and several players have made that step, among them Tebogo Mashigo, Bayanda Thabede and Onke Ncama. Goalkeeper Nqobani Biyela went the other way, to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 2021 season is the one the reserves are remembered for. They went through the DStv Diski Challenge Rewired unbeaten and met Mamelodi Sundowns Reserves in the final. Lindani Shange and Msindisi Ndlovu scored in a 2-0 win.

Vusi Vilakazi is the coach most closely tied to this side. He worked with the reserves before he became co-coach of the senior team.
