Chippa United U23

The bad feeling with Royal AM dates from 2021, when a walkover in a promotion playoff turned into a controversy. It reaches the reserves too. Chippa United's under-23 team meets Royal AM's youngsters in the same DStv Diski Challenge. Cape Town Spurs fell out with the club over relegation disputes and its time in Cape Town. Richards Bay became a rival through relegation battles of their own.

The reserve side belongs to a club that Siviwe "Chippa" Mpengesi built in 2010 by buying the franchise rights to Mbekweni Cosmos. The nickname, the Chilli Boys, comes from the owner's own. The seniors won the Vodacom League National Championship in 2010–11 and the National First Division in 2013–14. The club is based in Port Elizabeth, also called Gqeberha, and in East London, and it plays in white and blue stripes.

The under-23s have not won the Diski Challenge league. Their best runs have come in the Diski Shield. In 2019 they reached the semi-finals and lost to Golden Arrows, and in 2022 they went out at the same stage to Stellenbosch. That second run ended in the third-place playoff, where they drew 2-2 with Mamelodi Sundowns Reserves and lost on penalties.

The name outsiders know best from the club is a goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali.
