About the player
Rio de Janeiro raised Rodrigo Modesto da Silva Moledo, but it was a Copa do Brasil tie in 2009, while he was on the books at União Rondonópolis, that caught the eye of scouts. He had started out at Camboriú FC in the second division of the Campeonato Catarinense and took in a brief spell in Poland with MKS Odra Wodzisław Śląski before Internacional signed him in 2010.
At Internacional, Moledo built a reputation as a defender who led from the back in the most literal sense, topping the clearance charts in both the Copa Libertadores and the Campeonato Gaúcho during his time there. He won the Recopa Sudamericana in 2011 and two Campeonato Gaúcho titles before a 2013 move to FC Metalist Kharkiv, a transfer reported at the time as the most expensive sale in Internacional's history. He returned to the Brazilian club twice more, first on a free transfer in 2015 and again in 2018, amassing more than 247 appearances across his three spells there.
In between, a stint in Greece with Panathinaikos brought back-to-back selections in the Super League Greece Team of the Season for 2015–16 and 2016–17. In April 2013, Luiz Felipe Scolari called him into the Brazil squad for a friendly against Chile, though the appearance never came. After leaving Internacional for good, Moledo joined Chapecoense in 2024 before signing for Coritiba.
