Al-Hidd

Al-Hidd Sports and Cultural Club took shape on Muharraq Island in 1945. That proximity is the root of the derby with Al-Muharraq; the meeting with Al-Riffa SC carries less shared geography and, unlike the named Muharraq and Riffa derbies played by other clubs, neither Al-Hidd fixture has picked up a title of its own.

The club spent years working toward the top flight, and the route there is on record: promotion out of the Second Division in 2009–10. Six seasons later came the breakthrough it had been built up to — the Bahraini Premier League in 2015–16, followed by the King's Cup and the Federation Cup that same season, a sweep that turned "The Tsunami" from a nickname into something closer to a description. A second league title followed in 2019–20, though the man who managed that side is not remembered in the same way as Mohammed Al-Shamlan, who led Al-Hidd through 2016–17 and into the play-off round of the AFC Champions League, the closest the club has come to continental football.

Abdulwahab Al-Malood and Ahmed Bughammar carried the national team's colours while wearing Al-Hidd's blue and white, giving the club a presence in Bahrain's international side beyond its own trophy count. What it has not done is push past that Champions League play-off stage into the group phase itself, a step that has so far stayed out of reach.
