First Vienna Women

Promotion to the Bundesliga in 2020/21 was one thing; finishing second three seasons later, in 2023/24, was another, and it earned First Vienna Women a place in UEFA Women's Champions League qualifying, a stage they had never reached before. The following season the team held third place through the regular campaign before the championship play-offs settled them in fourth.

None of that came from continuity. The women's side that exists today is a rebuild, not a straight line from the original. First Vienna FC 1894 had fielded a women's team since 1989, the first Austrian Bundesliga club to do so, absorbing an existing side, KSV der Wiener Berufsschulen, and its coach Christine Hainzl along with it. That team eventually folded, and it was Hainzl again who restarted the project in the autumn of 2011, this time from the bottom, with an U15 and an U11 side. A senior team followed a year later, and it won the fourth-tier Vienna league at the first attempt in 2012/13.

The climb from there was steady rather than dramatic: the Vienna women's league title and the Vienna Cup both came in 2017/18, promotion to the second tier followed, and the Bundesliga place arrived in 2020/21. A regional title from 2019/20 does not count among the honours — it was struck from the record when the pandemic cut that season short.

Home games are played at the Naturarena Hohe Warte, shared with the club's men's team, under the same blue and yellow that First Vienna have carried since 1894.
