JJ Urquiza go into the season in Primera B Metropolitana, the division they reached in 2018 after beating Argentino de Quilmes on penalties in the Reducido final of Primera C.

That 1995 campaign remains the one honour the club counts as certain, won in Primera D with Walter Eduardo Gómez scoring twice in the match that settled it. The captain now is Diego Adrián Ianiero, at the club since 2016 after spells at Argentinos Juniors and, briefly, at Saturn in Russia.

Home games are played at Estadio Ramón Roque Martín on Miramar street in Caseros, opened in 1994; in 2019 the pitch was turned 90 degrees within the same ground. The fixture against General Lamadrid is the one both sides call a clásico.

The sky-blue shirt gives the club its nickname, El Celeste. The colour runs back to the club's origin: JJ Urquiza was formed by the merger of three sides from the area, Club Social, Club Atlético Unión — itself founded in 1911 — and Club Atlético Caseros, with the new club's first president decided by drawing lots. It took the name of Justo José de Urquiza, Argentina's first president, and joined the AFA in 1937.
