The Cambaceres neighbourhood, on the edge of Ensenada in Buenos Aires province, gave its name to the group of locals who founded a club there on 12 October 1921. They chose red for the shirt and white for the shorts as a direct nod to Independiente.

For decades the only football on offer was regional. Cambaceres won the Liga Amateur Platense eleven times between 1927 and 1956, and the fifth of those titles, in 1935, came with a clause written into the league's own rules: five championships and the trophy stayed for good. It never left the club.

Entry into the Argentine Football Association's pyramid brought two Primera D titles, in 1959 and 1976. Primera C followed twice, in 1990/91 and then 1998/99, when Cambaceres took both halves of the season, Apertura and Clausura.

Home games are played at the Estadio 12 de Octubre, opened on its current site in 1930 and renamed in 2001 to mark the club's founding date. Its capacity now runs to 3,000 after sections of terracing were taken down; in its fuller years it held crowds closer to 8,000.
