A second, in 2017–18, sent the club back to Primera C, and that run included a Copa Argentina tie against Huracán, a top-flight side, lost 0-1 in the round of 32.

The name has nothing to do with a founder's ambition on the pitch: Victoriano Arenas was a local estate agent whose firm sold plots of land around Valentín Alsina under the slogan "Victoriano Arenas vende lotes", and the club, founded on 2 January 1928, kept his name long after the land deals were forgotten. It waited until 1963 to join the AFA proper, the same year it opened the ground it still uses.

That ground, Estadio Saturnino Moure, is known locally as La Isla — the island — for where it sits: administratively part of Piñeyro, in Avellaneda, but physically stranded on a strip of land belonging to the city of Buenos Aires, hemmed in by the Riachuelo and an industrial estate. It holds 1,500.

Two dates stand out more than any table position. On 4 April 1998, a match at the ground was the first professional men's fixture in Argentina refereed by a woman, Florencia Romano. In 2011, a game against Cañuelas produced 36 red cards between players, substitutes and staff.

Playing in the vertical light-blue and white stripes that earned the nickname Celeste, Victoriano Arenas sit in Primera C, the fourth tier.
