Kastamonuspor 1966

Two clubs share the same crest history, which is why Kastamonuspor 1966 carries a name that looks like an afterthought. When the original Kastamonuspor, founded in 1950, went down together with Tosya Belediyespor in 2014, the two merged. An administrative deadline forced the choice of name, and rather than keep the 1950 identity, the new entity took the year professional football had actually begun in Kastamonu under the old club's colours: 1966. The license that carried it forward, technically, had belonged to Tosya Belediyespor all along.

The colours red and black replaced an earlier green and black, chosen to echo AC Milan, though the switch is also remembered locally as a tribute to the dead of Çanakkale. The nickname that stuck, Dep, means Earthquake.

On the pitch the club built its identity in the lower leagues: an amateur title in 2010–11, promotion through the Professional Transition League in 2014–15, and the 3. Lig championship the following season. That same 2015–16 campaign carried them into the group stage of the Turkish Cup, where they knocked out Kasımpaşa on penalties in the third round. Play-off semi-finals in the second tier followed in 2016–17 and again in 2023–24.

The club withdrew from the TFF 2. Lig for the 2021–22 season after flooding hit the city, then returned. Derby day now means Tosyaspor, a fixture still called the Tosya-Kastamonu derby, a reminder that the rivalry predates the merger that created the club itself. Kastamonu Gazi Stadyumu holds a little over 4,000, in a city where the football club and the earthquake it is named for both belong to the same ground.
