Newcastle Jets have won two A-League Championships, in 2007-08 and 2017-18, but the first gets talked about most in Newcastle: a 1-0 win over Central Coast Mariners in the Grand Final, settled by Mark Bridge. The club beat that by winning the title again, adding to the shelf rather than living off it — an Australia Cup in 2025, beating Heidelberg United 3-1, and the A-League Premiership the following season.
None of that was guaranteed along the way. The club started life in 2000 as Newcastle United, joined the reshaped competition under the name Newcastle United Jets in 2005, and dropped "United" once the resemblance to the English club of the same name became more trouble than it was worth.
Joel Griffiths remains the club's all-time leading scorer.
