Ole Bjørn Edner started a girls' football team in the Røa district of Oslo in 1984, working alongside his daughter Kristine. The section spent years outside the official structure before it was taken into Røa IL in 1993 and entered the Norwegian league system proper.
Røa took the Toppserien five times, in 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2011.
Siri Nordby ran through much of that era as captain, racking up 353 appearances and leading the side while also captaining Norway at the 2007 World Cup.
Across the city, Lyn provide the closest thing Røa has to a rival, and the meetings between the two are known locally as "Best i vest" — best in the west.
