About

Posten Cup is an annual international invitational women’s handball tournament held in Norway. Organised by the Norwegian Handball Federation, the event takes place in November, typically in Larvik or Bergen. It serves as final preparation for the Norwegian national team ahead of major championships.

The competition was founded in 2001. It began as the Møbelringen Cup before changing its name through various sponsorship deals. From 2019 to 2022, it was known as the Intersport Cup. Since 2023, it has been called the Posten Cup, following sponsorship from Posten Norge.

The tournament features four teams: the Norwegian women's national team and three invited sides. The current participants include Hungary Women, Norway Women, Serbia Women, and Spain Women. The format is a single round-robin league where each team plays every other team once. There are no play-offs or finals. The winner is determined by total points accumulated in the standings, with two points for a win and one for a draw. Goal difference is used to break ties.

Norway is the most successful team in the competition's history, having won the title seventeen times as of 2024. Denmark has secured four victories, while Russia has added two wins. The 2020 edition was cancelled due to the pandemic. In 2024, Norway claimed the trophy. Norway also won the 2025 edition, defeating Spain, Serbia, and Hungary in the round-robin matches held in November 2025.

The Posten Cup is distinct from the Golden League, of which it is the Norwegian leg. The Golden League involves rotating host nations such as Denmark, France, and Norway, and has a different structure. The Posten Cup is a fixed Norwegian event. It is also separate from club competitions and youth tournaments like the Nordic Cup or Larvik Handball Classic.
