S. Samad opened the scoring in the 26th minute, giving the home side an early edge. Mohammedan responded through Lalremsanga just before half-time, and the first half ended level at 1-1. To be fair, the opening exchanges showed plenty of intent from both sides, though neither could hold their shape for long.
The turning point came in the 60th minute when D. Ghosh received a red card, reducing Mohammedan to ten men. R. Mahitosh converted the resulting penalty in the 63rd minute to restore Mohun Bagan's lead. By then, the visiting side had given away too many cheap fouls in dangerous areas, and that price has gone.
S. Samad completed his brace in the 69th minute, extending the advantage to two goals. It looked as though the home side might cruise to victory, but Mohammedan pulled one back through S. Banerjee in the 73rd minute. The visitors held on grimly through the closing stages, knowing a draw would keep them within touching distance of the leaders.
The result leaves Mohun Bagan Super Giant II in third place, two points above Mohammedan, and both sides remain in contention for the top positions. The gap between them is narrow enough that the table goes out of the window in these games, and every point matters going forward.
