Zahoraci — Modra: 31:29, Extraliga

Zakharatsi beat Modra 31:29 in Thursday's Extraliga clash at home, taking a narrow victory that kept both sides level on points after three rounds. The hosts sit eighth on two points, one place behind seventh-placed Modra, who also have two points from three games.

I had called a home win before the game at 58 per cent confidence and it came through, though not without Modra making them work for it. The scoreline tells you everything — Zakharatsi were the better side on the night, but Modra refused to fold early.

Looking at the recent form, the hosts came into this off a heavy 47-30 defeat to Tatran Presov on September 19th, while Modra had lost two of their last three before that. This result gave Zakharatsi some breathing room after that stumble, and Modra at least showed they could still compete away from home.

Both teams have played three games now with identical records — one win, two draws, no losses. The gap between them remains just one place in the table, and given how close this match was, it's touch and go whether that separation holds.

The result means Zakharatsi continue their unbeaten run, though they'll know they could have done more with the chances they created. Modra take the points from the draw earlier and show character by not letting the game slip away entirely.
