SEHA League Cancelled for 2026/2027 Season
Belarusian Handball Federation chief Vladimir Konoplev says the regional SEHA League won't run next season, citing political and military tensions, with new Belarus-Russia tournaments planned instead.
The SEHA League will not take place in the 2026/2027 season. Vladimir Konoplev, chairman of the Belarusian Handball Federation, confirmed the decision in an interview with the television channel Belarus 5.
"You understand, life is life. You see what political and military events are taking place around our country. So, unfortunately, that is how it turned out. We will organise new tournaments both in Belarus and in Russia. We will invite strong teams from other countries," Konoplev said.
The SEHA League was founded in 2011 by six national federations from South East Europe, with the aim of bringing together the region's strongest clubs across national borders. Clubs from Hungary, Belarus and Russia joined later. After 2022, when European federations suspended Russian and Belarusian teams from international competition, organisers set up a separate East Division for them, contested by the top four clubs from the Russian and Belarusian championships.
BGK Meshkov Brest are the reigning SEHA League champions, having beaten Zenit 24:22 in the final.
