About the player
Christian Mafla broke through with Boyacá Chicó in 2011 before a brief spell at América de Cali, then a loan to Argentina's Olimpo de Bahía Blanca that yielded no first-team minutes. The move that put him on a winning path came in 2014, when Atlético Bucaramanga signed him: he helped the side lift the Primera B title in 2015 and go up to the top flight, staying with the club until 2017.
His years at Atlético Nacional brought the heaviest silverware of his career. Between 2017 and 2020 he won the Liga Águila 2017-I, the Copa Colombia in 2018, the Florida Cup the same year, and the Liga Águila 2020-I. That run earned him a move abroad: in December 2020 he joined New England Revolution in Major League Soccer, where he won the Supporters' Shield in 2021 before the two sides parted ways by mutual consent in February 2022.
He returned to Colombia with Deportivo Cali, then switched to Deportivo Pasto in January 2023 as a free agent. In January 2025 he signed for Independiente Santa Fe. He played 47 league matches in the 2025 season and scored five goals, a contribution to Santa Fe's 2025 Apertura title and the 2026 Superliga triumph.
Mafla represented Colombia at youth level, playing at the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup, though he has not been capped by the senior national team.
