About the player
Born in the city, he came up through RNK Split's youth ranks before switching to Hajduk Split, where he stayed in the academy system through to Hajduk Split II.
The move that changed things came in January 2020, when Royal Antwerp paid €150,000 to take him to Belgium. He spent his time there as a squad goalkeeper rather than a starter, and his one appearance for the club's first team came in the 2019–20 Belgian Cup final, where he played all 90 minutes as Antwerp beat Club Brugge 1–0. He never made a league appearance for the club.
He left Antwerp for Beerschot on a free transfer in August 2022. He made 40 league appearances across two seasons, moving up from the Challenger Pro League to the Jupiler Pro League, and was part of the Beerschot squad that won the Challenger Pro League title in 2023–24 to secure promotion.
He signed a three-year contract with Gorica in June 2025, arriving from Beerschot on a free transfer. Matijaš has represented Croatia at every youth level from U14 through U20, though he has not been capped by the senior national team.
