Franco Alfonso

Franco Alfonso made his professional debut for River Plate on 28 January 2023 under Martín Demichelis, becoming the first academy player handed a debut during the coach's spell in charge. First-team minutes stayed scarce, though — five substitute appearances and 73 minutes across the 2023 Primera División season, even as the club went on to win the Liga Profesional title that year.

Loan spells followed as he looked for regular football away from River Plate: eighteen months at Huracán brought around 45 appearances and two goals, and a brief return to River in early 2025 was followed by another loan, this time to Central Córdoba de Santiago del Estero, where he added 15 appearances.

The move that reshaped his career came in January 2026, when Alfonso joined Olimpia in Paraguay on a permanent transfer structured as a 50/50 co-ownership deal with River Plate, signing a three-year contract with the option of a further year. He arrived in Paraguay on 2 January and was thrown straight into the side, debuting on 26 January in a 2-1 win over Guaraní. The switch paid off quickly: he became a regular starter in Paraguay, contributing two goals and three assists through the 2026 Torneo Apertura campaign. Olimpia lifted that title on 4 May 2026, their first Apertura crown since 2019.
