About the player
Georgios Vagiannidis joined the Panathinaikos academy at the age of eight and made his senior debut for the club on 16 February 2020, scoring in a 3–1 win over Panetolikos. Within months he was on his way to Italy: Inter Milan signed him that June for a FIFA-determined compensation of €400,000 on a four-year deal.
Back in Athens, Vagiannidis established himself as a regular, making 70 league appearances and scoring once. His defining moment came in the 2024 Greek Cup final against Aris, when he scored the winning goal in the 97th minute of a 1–0 victory and was named Man of the Match. His form during the 2024–25 season earned him a place in the Super League Greece Team of the Season, and in September 2024 he made his debut for the Greek national team, coming on as a substitute in a UEFA Nations League match against Finland.
In August 2025, Sporting CP signed Vagiannidis on a five-year contract running until 2030, in a deal worth around €13–14.5 million including bonuses. The agreement includes an €80 million release clause and leaves Panathinaikos with a 15% sell-on interest in any future transfer.
