Leandro Leonel Brey

Leandro Brey did not start out as a goalkeeper. He joined Club Olimpia in his native Lomas de Zamora, then moved into the Los Andes academy at the age of ten as a defender, switching to goalkeeper only later. He made his senior debut for Los Andes in March 2021 and went on to make 34 appearances in the Primera B Metropolitana over two seasons, form that took him to Boca Juniors in February 2022 for a fee of $450,000.

His Boca debut came in unusual circumstances: on 12 April 2022, in a Copa Libertadores match against Always Ready, he came on as a substitute for the injured Agustín Rossi. The performance that put him on the map arrived in 2024, in the Copa Argentina quarter-finals against Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata, when Brey saved four penalties in the shoot-out, a feat without precedent at the club. Boca were eventually eliminated in the semi-finals by Vélez Sársfield, but the display was enough to earn Brey a place in Argentina's squad for the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he served as back-up to Gerónimo Rulli. He did not play as Argentina went out in the quarter-finals, and at senior level his international experience remains confined to the U-23 side.

Domestically, Brey has been part of Boca's title-winning squads for the 2022 Primera División and the 2022 Copa de la Liga Profesional, as well as the Supercopa Argentina, though without featuring in the decisive matches. 21 appearances in 2024 with eight clean sheets, and by September 2026 he had made 15 appearances across the Liga Profesional, Copa Argentina and Copa Libertadores, keeping five clean sheets. In December 2029 he renewed his contract with Boca, a deal that includes a $20 million release clause.
