Bohunice Women

Handball at Bohunice did not begin with a founding but with a transfer: in 1991 the women's teams of Lokomotiva-Ingstav moved across to TJ Tatran Bohunice, a Brno club that had itself been assembled in 1948 out of older sports societies — Sokol, Orel, Slavoj — tracing back to a Brno-Bohunice sports society formed in 1929. The handball section inherited that patchwork identity and kept it: Tatran Bohunice remains the only club in Brno running both men's and women's handball through every age group, from mini-handball to the senior sides.

The women's best season came in 2003, when the team reached the final of the Czech Extraliga and lost the series 3-0 to Tatran Střešovice. A second Extraliga campaign followed in 2004, but since then the side has settled into the second-tier 1. liga žen, finishing as high as fifth in the curtailed 2020-21 season and ninth in 2023-24, with promotion won from the Moravian second league in both 2013 and 2018.

Iva Jonová coaches the current squad, built around players such as Petra Havelková and Simona Smějová, in derbies against SK Žeravice and away trips to Zlín, Hodonín and Kunovice. Matches are played across the two halls of the Tatran Bohunice sports complex on Neužilova street, the newer of which holds 2,900. Since 2023 the club has carried the status of a Sports Centre under the Czech Handball Federation.
