Hong Kong Women

China is the opponent the Hong Kong women turn up against most often. There is no name attached to that rivalry — no derby, no trophy tied to it — just the recurring fact of playing catch-up.

The team traces back to the Handball Association of Hong Kong, China, founded in December 1970, though the women's side itself did not take shape until the 1980s. At the Asian Games, the high point was sixth place in Incheon in 2014, followed by seventh in Jakarta-Palembang four years later.

Ip Shi-yan currently coaches the side.

Without a permanent home ground, the squad trains across various indoor venues in Hong Kong and has used Kai Tak Arena , the 10,000-seat venue inside Kai Tak Sports Park, for major recent fixtures such as the 2025 National Games of China.
