IFK Kungälv

The club is often confused with its older neighbour, IFK Kungälv, which shares the town, the red-and-blue colours and even part of the name but built its identity around bandy rather than handball. Kungälvs HK grew out of a section inside IK Kongahälla and became its own club on 9 February 1970.

Both the women's team, in the Handbollsligan, and the men's, in Allsvenskan, play out of Mimershallen, a hall that holds 600. Matches against Redbergslids IK carry the weight of a local derby, even without a name attached to it.

Sofie Börjesson is the name most associated with the club now, a goalkeeper who has gone on to play for the Swedish national team. Clara Lerby on the left wing and Charité Mumbongo at left back have also worn the national shirt, and goalkeeper Marie Wall did so before them.
