Kleinmünchen / BW Linz

Sportanlage Seidelbastweg holds barely 500 people, and on most weekends that is enough. The ground has never needed to hold more — it belongs to a women's club that built its name in Linz without a stadium arms race, and the small terraces have stayed part of the identity rather than a limitation to grow out of.

The team started life in 1980 as Union Kleinmünchen. Within a decade it had turned into the dominant force in Austrian women's football: eight league titles between 1989 and 1999, six Austrian Cups in roughly the same stretch, and the one Austrian Super Cup added in 2001. That run in the 1990s is the reason the club's name still carries weight in the domestic game, long after the trophies stopped coming at that pace.

Gertrud Stallinger belonged to that era both as a player and, briefly, as a coach — capped 56 times for Austria with 30 goals before she took charge of the side in 2005. Gerald Reindl's spell on the bench ran far longer, split across 2007 to 2012 and then 2014 to 2023, long enough to see the club through its next reinvention: in 2021 it entered a sporting partnership with the women's section of FC Blau-Weiß Linz, playing on as SPG Union Kleinmünchen/FC Blau-Weiß Linz.

More recently the pathway from Seidelbastweg has fed the wider game — Laura Wienroither went on to play for Arsenal, Lisa Kolb for SC Freiburg. From the 2026/27 season the club takes yet another name, FC Blau-Weiß Linz Kleinmünchen, folding the Union Kleinmünchen identity fully into the merger. Whatever it is called next, it will still play in blue and white, on the same small ground where the 1980 side first took shape.
