Litovel

HBC Olomouc 1966 is the name that sharpens any Litovel matchday, a regional derby in which the Hala Sokolka crowd, barely more than a hundred strong, makes itself heard well beyond its numbers. The ground seats around 150, which keeps the noise close to the floor and the visiting team within earshot of every complaint.

Tatran plays in the second-tier 1. liga now, having dropped out of the Extraliga in the 2018/19 season, a level the club has not managed to reclaim since. No championship or cup sits in the cabinet, and nobody at the club pretends otherwise; what it has instead is a youth line that keeps feeding the first team, among them Pavel Mrnuštík, who came through Vsetín's academy before pulling on Litovel's blue and white.

The handball side traces back to a Sokol gymnastics section, one of the countless clubs the Sokol movement seeded across Czech towns before the war. Litovel's version took shape in 1934, and when the postwar reorganisation of Czechoslovak sport swept away the old Sokol structures, the section re-emerged in 1953 under the TJ Tatran banner, the name it has carried ever since.
