Lyss Women

PSG Lyss splits its energy between two squads that rarely draw the same attention: the men, with a Swiss Cup on the shelf, and a women's team still working its way through the lower Swiss divisions, currently in the 1. Liga. The gap in silverware is real, but the women's side has had its moment too, reaching the top-flight SPL1 around the 2017/2018 season before dropping back down.

The handball department traces back further than its official founding date suggests. Games were already being played within the local Pathfinder group in 1952/53, training became regular from 1966, and the section only became an independent club body in 1970. That scouting origin still shows in the name — PSG stands for Pfadi-Sport-Gruppe, the sports group of the Pathfinders.

Results and identity for the women's team have mostly been built away from the trophy cabinet. No major title sits against their name, but the club's fiercest fixture belongs to the town rather than to either roster alone: the Seeland Derby against HS Biel, a match that carries its own weight regardless of which division either side is in that year. Lyss itself, a small town in the canton of Bern, gives the rivalry its local edge.

Since 2017 the club has had a second home to go with the older Sporthalle Grien: the Nespoly Halle, built to take some of the load off the original venue. Recent squad lists for the women include Alena and Elena Schelbert alongside Mirjam Heinzer, part of a playing group that has kept the team competitive in the lower leagues without yet forcing a breakthrough back to the top flight.
