The relegation battle at the end of the 2024/25 season was not the club's first, and it will not be its last: TV Möhlin has spent most of the last two decades either fighting to stay up or fighting to get back. That instability traces to 2004, when the club dropped from the Nationalliga B all the way to the fourth tier.

The club's own turning point came earlier. Founded in 1893, Turnverein Möhlin developed a handball section strong enough that in 1986 it won the Nationalliga B and earned promotion to the top division for the first time. The Slovenian player Micha Bojovic, credited with bringing a touch of world class to the side, was central to that run. It did not last: Möhlin finished bottom of the relegation round the following season and went back down, and a second relegation from the top flight followed after 2000/01.

Recovery from the 2004 collapse took until 2011/12, when the club won promotion back to the Nationalliga B under Wolfgang Böhme, a former East German international who had joined as player-coach. Böhme's spell coincided with the arrival of Marcus Hock, a German forward and former 2. Bundesliga top scorer, who went on to become the club's all-time leading scorer during his years at the Steinlihalle.

Möhlin's local fixtures carry their own weight: the Nordwestschweizer derby against TV Birsfelden and the Aargauer derby against STV Baden draw on rivalries that predate the club's more recent struggles, back to the 1970s, when Peter Soder, Heinz Mahrer and Rudolf Hasler all played for the Swiss national team while turning out for Möhlin. Of the current generation, goalkeeper Nicolas Bamert is the name supporters point to first.
