Bundesliga after two seasons among the elite.

The club now known as HL Buchholz 08-Rosengarten did not arrive at that name in one step. It started in 2002 as SG Handball Rosengarten, born from the merger of TuS Nenndorf and TV Vahrendorf, then rebuilt itself twice more: a 2014 tie-up with Blau-Weiss Buchholz, then a 2017 merger with TSV Buchholz 08 that produced the current club.

Promotion, when it came, was not always taken. Buchholz won the 2. Bundesliga three years running, from 2018 to 2020, and turned down the step up to the top flight in both 2018 and 2019. Only in 2020 did the club accept it.
