Velke Mezirici

Twenty wins and two defeats in twenty-two matches settled it in 2024/25: HVM's men took the 2. liga JM title and, with it, a place back among the sides that matter in Moravian handball. That domestic run has carried into cup football, too — in the 2026 Czech Cup the same side beat top-flight Rožnov pod Radhoštěm 36:27.

The club's youth structure has been doing similar work for longer. The Younger Boys were crowned national champions at the Handball Decathlon in 2024, a repeat of a title first won in 1988 at the national final in Zruč nad Sázavou, and the same age group went unbeaten to win the Polanka Cup that year. In 2026 the Older Boys added a silver medal at the Handball Festival in Lovosice, a tournament that drew 33 clubs and 72 teams.

Handball arrived in Velké Meziříčí in 1921 with a women's section under what was then SK Velké Meziříčí; the men followed a decade later. The club has changed its name several times since — through Sokol, Spartak and Motorpal before returning to TJ Sokol Velké Meziříčí — and passed its hundredth year in 2021. It now plays in red and black under the short name HVM.

Its home is the Sportovní hala on Sportovní street, known locally as the hall K Novému světu — "to the new world" — a name that will soon apply literally: the building is being replaced by a new arena for 350 spectators, budgeted at 156 million koruna and due for completion by mid-2027.

For all the recent silverware, the two senior teams still sit a division below the top flight — the men in the second tier, the women in the first league's second level.
