SCM Craiova Women

On a night in May 2018, Craiova's players lifted the EHF Cup after beating Vipers Kristiansand in the final. Bogdan Burcea managed the team that season; his successor, Ovidiu Mihăilă, has led the side since June 2024.

At home, the story reads differently. Craiova has finished runner-up in the Liga Națională twice, in 2017–18 and 2018–19, and lost a Cupa României final in 2016–17 and a Supercupa României final the same year, yet the national title has never followed.

The club carries the nickname Oltencele — the girls of Oltenia — and plays in blue and white. It is registered separately from CS Universitatea Craiova, though the two share the city.

None of it existed before October 31, 2006, when the Craiova City Council issued Decision No. 420 bringing the club into being; the handball section itself followed in February 2007, and it took until the 2009–10 season for the team to reach the Liga Națională for the first time.
