Rosenborg edged past Brann 3-2 in a tight Eliteserien clash on Saturday evening, with K. Eriksen's 90+1 minute goal settling a match that swung back and forth. The result lifts Ole S. Selnes' side to sixth, one point clear of hosts Brann in seventh.
N. Castro opened the scoring for Brann in the 14th minute, a simple finish that put the home side ahead. Rosenborg responded through A. Chiakha, who converted a penalty in the 61st minute after his earlier yellow card. I. Fossum then fired Brann back into the lead in the 67th, but K. M. Ingason equalised for the visitors just six minutes later.
The game kept turning. Brann made changes to try and hold on — I. Fossum came off in the 73rd minute, while A. Pereira was withdrawn eight minutes before the end. Rosenborg brought on J. Svensson and N. Wassberg in the second half, and it was the late substitution game that ultimately paid off. Eriksen's stoppage-time goal proved the difference.
By then, the statistics told a story of missed opportunities. Rosenborg created six big chances compared to Brann's zero, and had seven shots on target to five. But Brann's goalkeeper made four saves to Rosenborg's two, and the hosts made 45 clearances against the visitors' 15. Possession was evenly split at 52-48, but the chances were not.
The win leaves Rosenborg top of the tight mid-table pack, one point ahead of Brann after 16 rounds. Both sides have played 19 games and sit level on eight victories. What this means for the season remains to be seen, but for now, the visitors have taken the spoils.
