GCK Lions hosted Schur in the opening round of the Swiss League on Thursday evening, but the visitors secured a comfortable 3:6 victory at the first attempt. The match took place at the Lions' home arena on 18 September 2026, with the final whistle bringing a decisive result for the away side.
For the hosts, the outcome meant another defeat to start the campaign. They sit ninth in the table with one loss from one game, having taken a heavy beating. The scoreline reflected a performance that never really found its footing.
Schur, meanwhile, moved into second place with their first win. They had already shown promise in recent fixtures, including a 5:1 victory over Freiburg just days before. To be fair, they looked sharper and more organised throughout.
We had given the home side our backing, predicting a 44% chance of victory. And here's the thing — the match went entirely the other way. Schur controlled the tempo from the opening exchanges, never allowing the Lions to build any momentum.
By then, the visitors were already three goals up and had settled into a comfortable rhythm. The Lions struggled to respond, their structure breaking down under sustained pressure. It wasn't a game that stayed close for long.
The result leaves Schur with maximum points after one game, while the hosts will need to regroup quickly. Both teams have one more match to play, and the table will shift once everyone has their first outing complete.
