Omsk Hawks lost 1:7 to Tolpar in the MHL on Wednesday evening. The away side took their time to settle, then found a way back into it and simply ran away with things. By the final whistle the result was never in doubt.
We had tipped the home side to edge it, confidence at 56 per cent. That forecast ended a barren spell for us, but the match went another way entirely. Tolpar's second-period surge pulled the strings and handed Omsk a lesson in how quickly a lead can evaporate.
The standings tell a story we've seen before. Omsk Hawks sit fifth after two games with zero points, while Tolpar occupy second on the same tally. To be fair, the table says very little this early, but the scoreline speaks for itself.
These two met yesterday too, a tighter affair that Tolpar won 3:2. Since then they've been on a good run, while Omsk have found themselves on the wrong end of results. The heat took the sting out of yesterday's defeat for the visitors.
Seven goals conceded in one game is not something you forget. Omsk Hawks will need to work out where things came to a head before the next fixture. Tolpar, meanwhile, have shown they can punish teams that aren't sharp.
