Slavia Mozyr beat Vitebsk 3:0 in the Premier League on Friday evening. The victory came in the 21st round of the regular season at the Mozyr stadium. Andrey Solovey opened the scoring in the 19th minute before Aleksey Antilevski added a second goal late in the match.
By then Slavia had settled into a rhythm they maintained for most of the game. Solovey received a yellow card in the 57th minute for his efforts, while Nikita Melnikov went off the same way in stoppage time. The hosts made changes at half-time and then again in the second half, bringing on Denis Fedorenko and Terentiy Lutsevich after the break.
And here's the thing about the numbers. Vitebsk had 53 per cent possession but registered zero shots on target all evening. Slavia hit the target five times from their ten attempts, with the other five going wide. The visitors blocked two shots but could not prevent the goals.
To be fair, this result shifts the gap between the two sides. Vitebsk sit fifth with 32 points from 20 games, while Slavia remain tenth on 22 points after 19 matches. The home side had lost their previous outing to Neman 0:1 but bounced back with wins over Arsenal and Dnepr Mogilev before this one.
We had tipped Slavia to win with 39 per cent confidence before kick-off. The prediction held up as the hosts took all three points despite Vitebsk's greater share of possession. The goal difference now stands at nine points between the two teams in the table.
