Sønderjyske and Viborg shared the points in a 0-0 draw at the Superliga Stadium on Friday evening. The hosts, rooted to the bottom of the table with a solitary point from seven games, managed to frustrate the visitors who sit fourth with thirteen.
There was drama in the opening moments when T. Jorgensen appeared to fire Viborg ahead in the seventh minute, only for the goal to be waved away by VAR. It was a cruel twist that set the tone for the evening. To be fair, neither side could find a way through in the remaining ninety minutes.
Viborg controlled possession at 65 per cent and launched 90 attacks compared to Sønderjyske's 65, but the statistics tell only part of the story. The hosts defended with discipline, making 31 clearances to the visitors' 16. By then, the momentum had shifted away from the visitors despite their territorial advantage.
Both teams created one big chance each, but the finishing was lacking. Viborg registered four shots on target alongside eight off target, while Sønderjyske managed three on target from six attempts off target. The goalkeeper at the home end made four saves to keep out the pressure.
Sønderjyske picked up a yellow card through S. Emini just before the break, a sign of the physical contest. The visitors, meanwhile, kept their discipline and made their substitutions wisely, bringing on T. Jorgensen himself in the 87th minute to see out the result.
The result leaves Sønderjyske still searching for their first win, having taken points from only one of their previous seven fixtures. Viborg's run of four victories remains intact, though they will be frustrated they could not add two more points to their tally.
