FC Nordsjaelland

Six months after being crowned Danish champions for the first time, Nordsjælland were drawn into a Champions League group against Chelsea, Juventus and Shakhtar Donetsk. It was the club's first appearance in Europe's premier competition, and it came from a side most of the continent had never had reason to watch.

The 2011/12 Superliga title was won under Kasper Hjulmand, who has since gone on to manage the Danish national team. Before that, the club had already collected the Danish Cup twice, beating FC Midtjylland in the finals of 2009/10 and 2010/11.

Right to Dream, the academy behind much of the club's rise, became majority owner in 2015 and lent its name to the stadium in Farum, now called Right to Dream Park; part of the club passed to the Egyptian businessman Mansour in 2021. The pipeline from that academy has sent Mohammed Kudus, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Mikkel Damsgaard, Andreas Skov Olsen and Victor Nelsson into bigger leagues, one after another.

Nordsjælland's closest rivalry belongs to Lyngby BK, 15 kilometres away; supporters know the meetings as the Battle of Northern Zealand.

The club itself began life as Farum Boldklub, formed in 1991 from a merger of Farum IK and Stavnsholt Boldklub. It kept that name until 2003, when a corruption scandal around the town's mayor, Peter Brixtofte, forced a reorganisation and the club re-emerged as FC Nordsjælland.
