In 2022 they knocked out IF Lyseng, 2–0. Aarhus Fremad ended the run in 2024, winning 2–1. Then on 25 August 2026 came AaB, a former Danish champion, beaten 2–1 in extra time; Nørresundby had already gone, 4–1.
The 2022 tie with AGF is remembered for reasons that had nothing to do with the football. AGF served kebab to the visiting Vatanspor supporters, the gesture was argued over well beyond Aarhus, and Pia Kjærsgaard, co-founder of the right-populist Danish People's Party, turned up to watch.
Haci Kara holds two jobs at once, chairman and head coach. Selim Genç captained the side for years.
In 2016 Vatanspor became only the second immigrant-founded club in Denmark to reach this level of the pyramid, after FK Prespa.
